I've recently been reading the book Crazy Love by Francis Chan (which I would recommend highly) and the fourth chapter is all about lukewarm Christians. I finished the chapter extremely convicted that I have not really been living on fire for Christ. One of the biggest things that stuck out to me is where Francis talked about how the lukewarm Christian compares themselves to others around them rather than to the standard that Christ asked of them. I know I have done that a lot. I figure I'm probably better than so-and-so, but the fact of the matter is that Christ said that we have to give up everything and follow Him.
Another thing that really smacked me upside the head was this paragraph:
"Lukewarm people don't really want to be saved from their sin; they want only to be saved from the penalty of their sin. They don't genuinely hate sin and aren't truly sorry for it: they're merely sorry because God is going to punish them. Lukewarm people don't really believe that this new life Jesus offers is better than the old sinful one."
I don't know about you, but I find that is true of me more than I would like to admit.
